NRRA Holds Inaugural Member Town Hall Meeting
NRRA members came together virtually for NRRA’s Inaugural Member Town Hall Meeting, “Ask NRRA — What Is NRRA Doing for Me?” to hear representatives from three of NRRA’s subcommittees discuss their recent work and how members can get further education and assistance with the challenges they are facing.
Heather Ross, NRRA GAC Vice Chair and former VP/Director of Regulatory Compliance, Risk Services, LLC, represented the Regulatory Subcommittee and explained the new Government Affairs Committee (GAC) structure as well as the work they do monitoring both the NAIC and what’s happening on the regulatory front on a statutory basis. She also shared how NRRA members can request assistance from the GAC committee and gave examples of how the committee goes to bat for RRGs with regulators in states that are attempting to or are actively violating the LRRA.
Rod Nofziger, NRRA Secretary and COO of Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), represented the Legislative Subcommittee and talked through how they monitor and get involved with legislative efforts that have the potential to harm RRGs in order to right the ship before it’s too late. Rod cited the committee’s recent work and positive results in Florida as an example.
Alex Petrovich, NRRA Treasurer and COO of Circle Star Insurance Company, a Risk Retention Group, spoke on behalf of the Transportation Subcommittee and addressed the growth of RRGs in the transportation sector, some of the unique and current challenges RRGs in trucking face, and how NRRA is advocating for transportation RRGs in the courts, statehouses, and at the NAIC. He touched on the significant impact on trucking from the ruling of a recent case, MONTGOMERY v. C.H. ROBINSON, which Alex and Rod will discuss in depth with three additional expert panelists the NRRA National Conference in Chicago in early October.
Colin Donovan, NRRA Board Member and President of STICO Mutual Insurance Company, RRG, moderated the Town Hall and led an insightful, member-driven discussion on the most serious challenges facing RRGs at present.

NRRA is extremely grateful for the hard work of Heather, Rod, Alex, Colin, and all the members of NRRA’s Subcommittees to help protect RRGs and for the invaluable skillsets and assistance they provide for the NRRA member community.
Additional Member Town Hall meetings will be held over the next year. Members can stay tuned for the second invitation following NRRA’s National Conference in October.
