Led by the country’s most knowledgeable individuals in risk retention and risk purchasing group operations, compliance, and insurance, this organization provides top-tier support.

Mission

The National Risk Retention Association (NRRA) is the only national association dedicated to the successful development, education, promotion and advocacy on behalf of risk retention and purchasing group alternatives to traditional liability insurance. Formed in September 1987 as a 501 (c)(6) non-profit trade association, NRRA provides a forum where the country’s most knowledgeable individuals in the industry exchange valuable and timely information. NRRA has a long history of successful legal and regulatory representation in this area, along with more than three decades of advocacy.

Members

Our membership is open to risk retention groups and purchasing groups, their members, owners, managers, as well as individuals and companies providing services for those entities (i.e. law, accounting, actuarial, claims, risk management, insurance, captive management and entity formation). Other members include industry sponsors and students/universities looking to get hands-on learning and experience in this unique field.

What is the National Risk Retention Association (NRRA)?

NRRA is an IRC Section 501(c)(6) non-profit and non-partisan trade association that is dedicated to the development of, education about and advocacy on behalf of risk retention and purchasing groups. 

What does NRRA do?

NRRA is the center of all things relating to risk retention groups (RRGs). Our team defends the rights of RRGs to do business before the courts, conducts advocacy campaigns, communicates with regulators, represents RRGs before the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and connects members of the risk retention community.  NRRA holds regular educational and informational programs, annually brings RRG leaders together to work on issues important to all RRGs and holds an annual conference where all those involved in the industry share their experiences, participate in nuts and bolts workshops, and learn about the best practices for risk retention group operations. NRRA works diligently to protect the preemption provisions of the LRRA and has thwarted or redirected potentially damaging legislation on multiple occasions.
