CRISP Students Reflect on NRRA Conference 2023

This year, four Gamma Iota Sigma college students from The Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management at Illinois State University attended NRRA 2023, participating in conference sessions and networking with industry attendees to gain an in-depth exploration of the risk retention field and help build their future careers. Read their reflections on attending the conference:

“These past three days have been more beneficial to me than I could have imagined. I learned a lot about an aspect of insurance I had no exposure to before, and I am thankful to have learned so much about RRGs. I appreciate everyone for their kindness and hospitality, and will cherish this experience for a long time. The conference ran efficiently and effectively and it made us students feel welcome. I want to thank everyone for everything, it means a lot.” - Jake Brown

“My experience at the NRRA conference was amazing. This was the first one I have attended so I was a little nervous but everyone was so welcoming and gave me amazing advice for my future career in the insurance industry. We learned so much about Risk Retention, how to network with professionals, and got to see many companies come together to work with each other.” - Olivia Petersen

“My time at the NRRA conference has been extremely beneficial and eye opening. This is a side of the industry that really isn’t talked about enough in classes so I have learned and taken away a lot of knowledge from this. Everyone that we met during our time here has been very welcoming and have given wonderful advice about the industry as a whole. It makes me excited to know that I will be working in the same industry as these amazing people! - Zack Mazariegos

“My experience during the NRRA 2023 National Conference was truly insightful. I am extremely grateful to be able to speak to so many professionals, and listen to all the panelists. We are all eager to learn more, and make these connections. To have an opportunity like attending the NRRA conference as a college student is super important to me, and an eye-opening experience. I am thankful for the people I have met and the advice they gave me.” - Karolina Kuchta

It was an honor to host these impressive students and we look forward to continuing to support the future of the risk retention industry. Learn more about NRRA’s Collegiate Research Insurance Shadow Program (CRISP).
